Types of Lubricants Used in Automobiles

There are many types of automotive lubricants, and by choosing the right one, you can ensure that your car parts are not destroyed. You will want to do your research and choose the right lubricant company to find the right option.

Engine oil Engine oil is a commonly used type of automotive oil. Vehicle manufacturers recommend changing the engine oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Certain additives are used to help prevent component failure and corrosion. There are also different types of viscosity, namely the thickness of the oil. Small numbers indicate that the oil is thinner, making it easier to flow. It is recommended to choose multi-grade oil when changing the oil so that it can maintain the viscosity rating when the oil is at different temperatures. There are plenty of lube oil suppliers to choose from, so make sure you choose the right one for your vehicle.

oil This oil is usually used in manual gearboxes and when high temperature lubricant is required. This type of oil has an odour that is perceptible, so you can detect a leak.

fluid This type of fluid can help prevent many problems. It helps lubricate the parts in the transmission and helps cool the transmission to prevent engine corrosion. You should check the transmission fluid with the vehicle on top and on a flat and level surface. There is a bright colour to help detect leaks. You can check the transmission fluid with the dipstick that is at the back of the engine room.

Wheel Bearings and Chassis Grease

This is the most common automotive lubricant used and probably the most recognizable. It can be found in suspension and steering links. This grease is necessary to prevent too much wear on the suspension. To properly lubricate the suspension, you will find this grease in a tube that can be added to a grease gun. This grease gun is then attached to the grease nipples, and the grease nipples are the areas to be lubricated. This grease should not be used on vehicles with disc brakes as it is not a high-temperature grease.

High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease

Use this type for high-temperature areas. This is the type of grease to use with disc brakes. This fat has an extra ingredient that makes it stay slippery even when the fat has dried.

Grease is a white grease with a lubricating consistency.

This grease is used for metal applications where water can be a problem. Water cannot wash away this grease and it cannot be diluted, making it good for use in high-temperature areas.

Electronic grease

This grease, also called heat sink grease, does not conduct electricity and is therefore used for electronic connections.

Penetration Lubricants

This lubricating oil helps loosen rusted and corroded nuts and bolts and can be found in an aerosol can. It must be soaked after application. Once soaked, the steps should be cleaned and then reapplied to get the nuts and bolts loose.

This should be used to lubricate parts that should not be exposed to oil. A common place where this should be used is on indoor locks.

It is important to listen to the automotive oil manufacturers’ recommendations on which lubricants to use where. It is important to choose the type and grade of lubricant needed. The brand doesn’t matter, but there are some good brands to consider, including Shield Lubricants and Kuwait Oil.
